Irish Postcodes Due To Be Launched

Most of the industry are eagerly awaiting the launch of the new Irish Postcode system and as we are asked all the time about eircodes we thought we would share a few updates. 1. The estimated date for launch is the 8th July. 2. The launch will only occur when the final piece of legislation is passed by the government but this is the unknown all fingers are crossed it will be passed in June. 3. The challenge is that the government is currently distracted by the sale of Aer Lingus, the siteserv debacle,IBRC issues and so on so will they get to pass this small piece of legislation that will allow eircodes to be launched by the 8th July. 4. If passed and eircodes are launched 2.3m letters will go out over a 13 working day period informing residential and business properties of their eircode which will be unique to there letterbox. It appears government department databases have been eircoded in readiness for the launch and when a government letter arrives after launch it will quote your eircode on the letter. However private company data sets are waiting on the final green button. It appears it is a case of Watch This Space!
