Lets face it no brand or Marketer wants to communicate to a recently deceased person which is why it is up to us to ensure our data is as up to date as possible and run against any industry suppression files available. Unfortunately Ireland has yet to develop a National suppression file of deceased citizens which is imperative to any data hygiene process. The IDMA is leading the way to build a National Suppression file which hopefully will gain the support of the Office Of The Data Protection Commissioner and other relevant government bodies to allow all marketers have access to gone away and deceased data. The MPS (Mail Preference Service) is now embedded in the code of practise for the new post code system ‘eircode’ and more work needs to be done to develop this National Suppression file.
